Fish oil has
been traditionally accepted as being good for health. Also, certain components of fish oil
such as the fatty acid "EPA" have been documented to lower blood
cholesterol and have promoted to
prevent arteriosclerosis and heart disease.
Now, a different fatty acid, Docosahexaenoic
acid (DHA), is creating the news. It has already been reported that DHA reduces blood
cholesterol, and does not have EPA's side effect of preventing blood from clotting.
Other
studies have recorded the ability of DHA to inhibit certain cancers, diabetes, obesity,
inflammation and immune function. However, the newest studies will show how DHA has a
direct effect on the brain and its function.
Experiments
have shown that fish oils have an inhibitory action on the initiation and
advancement of cancers of the breast and large intestine in animals. In
fact, it has been observed that DHA-deficient mice have a shorter life
span because most of them die from tumors of the liver and other organs.
It
is now known that N-3 PUFAs lower plasma triglyceride and cholesterol
concentrations and also prevent cardiovascular disease by suppressing
thrombus or clot formation.
The
blood vessels of a health person have a youthful appearance and are very elastic. Blood
flows smoothly these vessels and oxygen and nutrients are transported through out the body
efficiently.
High
levels of cholesterol can cause the vessels to harden and blood to become more viscous.
Cholesterol buildup collects on the vessel walls decreasing the flow of blood. As
conditions worsen, arteriosclerosis is developed. Thereafter, arteriosclerosis will
develop into a clogging of the vessels and the eventual breakdown and rupture of the vessel
itself. The key to preventing such a breakdown which causes adult diseases is to keep the
blood vessels as clean and flexible as possible.
When
adequate levels of HA are present in the body, data has shown that the blood vessels
remain healthy, then the body will remain healthy and provide the added benefit of
increased stamina.
